What Is SEO Anyway?

SEO also known as Search Engine Optimization or Optimisation depends where you live in the world is a process of gaining search engine ranking and hence visibility of a website optimizing a website. SEO is actually something between art and science as no one has the exact formula of how to rank a website top 10 in major search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Bing (or MSN). Most SEO Specialist will use the term natural search engine rankings or right hand side search engine listing to differentiate SEO from the paid search or pay per click advertising.

How You Can Do SEO Yourself?

Search engine optimization normally can be done in two parts, one is so called on page SEO and the other one is off page SEO. On-Page is the part of SEO that can be done with the web page itself and usually it is the easiest part of optimization process. Why? Because everyone can easily implement these “rules” on their web pages and called themselves “SEO Expert” after all. Anyway, how it can be done? Very simple. Search engines use keywords to find relevant web pages. Without a proper keyword or phrase on your web page, it is very hard for the search engines to determine if your web page is most relevant to search users queries. So basically, what you have to do is to stick couple of keywords in the web page title, descriptions and the meta keywords, and bingo you have on page optimization done! Is it that simple you asked? Well, not quite actually. This is only the first part, you have the second part as well. Off page optimizing.

Off Page Optimization

Off-page optimization is the portion of SEO that only can be performed out of your web page area. Basically it is the task that can be done on other people’s websites and This is why it is known as off-page SEO. What’s important here is the number quality as well as quantity incoming links that from other websites pointing your web page with your own targeted keywords that you wish to rank for in search engines. It is particular true if you if you want your site to be found top 10 in Google. Google will look how many other websites are pointing your web page for your keywords you wish to rank. Generally the more the better. But not all links count when search engines determine if your site is relevant for particular keywords or not. There are other factors you must consider. What are they? Well come back later as I will give you more in depth knowledge of it.
